With the NCAA Frozen Four set to begin this week, let’s take a look at the Flyers prospects who will compete in the tournament.

Alex Bump – Western Michigan

Alex Bump had an outstanding freshman season at Western Michigan University, culminating in 13 goals, 21 assists, and a total of 34 points across 37 games. Originally slated to begin his collegiate career at the University of Vermont, the former 2022 5th round pick found himself in the transfer portal following former coach Todd Woodcroft’s dismissal. Despite this initial setback, Bump’s resilience shone through as he embraced his new journey with Western Michigan.

Now, with the regular season behind him, Bump and his Western Michigan team are gearing up to face off against the formidable 4th seeded Michigan State in the first round.

Devin Kaplan – Boston University

In 2022, Devin Kaplan was selected in the 3rd round by the Flyers. His sophomore season at Boston University proved to be a mix of highs and lows. With 5 goals, 15 assists, and a total of 20 points across 34 games, Kaplan showcased his potential but also faced challenges along the way. Standing at 6’2″ and weighing 200lbs, Kaplan possesses formidable size, yet his current trajectory suggests a role more suited to the fourth line or the AHL.

Despite his scoring numbers, Kaplan’s true strengths lie in his physicality and willingness to battle in the gritty areas of the game. His preference for the tougher aspects of hockey sets him apart, making him a valuable asset on the ice.

As Boston University gears up for the first round, they’ll face RIT, and Kaplan’s presence will undoubtedly be felt as he brings his tenacity and determination to the forefront.

Owen McLaughlin – University of North Dakota

Owen McLaughlin, a former 7th round pick of the Flyers in 2021, showcased his talent during a remarkable sophomore season at the University of North Dakota. Achieving a point-per-game average, McLaughlin demonstrated his scoring prowess and overall impact on the ice. As the Fighting Hawks gear up for the first round, they face a formidable opponent in Michigan. Expectations are high as McLaughlin and his teammates aim to continue their success in the upcoming matchup.

Bryce Brodzinski – University of Minnesota

A former 7th round pick of the Flyers in 2019, Bryce Brodzinski now finds himself in his fifth year of college due to the COVID-shortened season. Despite the challenges, he managed to achieve a new career high in points, tallying 32 points with 19 coming as assists. While demonstrating promise, Brodzinski’s trajectory suggests he’s likely bound for a career in the AHL should the Flyers extend him a contract.

As Minnesota prepares for the first round, Brodzinski’s experience and dedication will undoubtedly be invaluable assets on the ice. They’re set to face off against Omaha in what promises to be an intense matchup.

Massimo Rizzo – University of Denver

Massimo Rizzo had an outstanding junior year as Denver’s top-line center, poised to set new career highs in all offensive categories before an untimely injury sidelined him. Despite the setback, Rizzo concluded the regular season with remarkable numbers: 10 goals, 34 assists (a career high), accumulating 44 points in just 28 games.

As the third-ranked Denver team prepares for the first round, they face a formidable opponent in UMASS. Rizzo’s return to the lineup adds depth and skill, heightening anticipation for an intense and competitive matchup.
