The New York Rangers extended their Metro Division lead to eight points on Saturday as they beat the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 in South Philadelphia.

In a game where Philadelphia dominated, Igor Shesterkin showcased his skills, stopping 39 of 40 shots. The highlight? Rookie Matt Rempe not only scored his first NHL goal, the game-winner, but also engaged in an epic bout with Flyers’ heavyweight Nic Deslauriers – a strong contender for the fight of the year. With this win, New York now comfortably leads second-place Carolina by eight points.

Carolina, despite a spirited effort, fell 2-1 to the Dallas Stars in regulation. Jake Oettinger’s stellar performance included stopping 20 of 21 shots, while Miro Heiskenen played a key role with assists on both Dallas goals. Sebastian Aho’s 22nd goal of the season was the lone bright spot for Carolina.

The New Jersey Devils claimed sole possession of fourth place with a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens. Timo Meier led the charge, contributing his 11th goal and 13th assist of the season. Nigel Daws played hero between the posts, denying 23 of 26 shots. Despite being five points behind the Flyers, the Devils have a game in hand.

The Washington Capitals, despite netting two power-play goals, suffered a 3-2 overtime defeat against the Florida Panthers. Gustav Forsling’s ninth goal of the season secured Florida’s win, while Charlie Lindgren made 22 saves. Washington now trails New Jersey by just one point with a game in hand.

Although Noah Dobson’s two assists couldn’t turn the tide, credit must be given to Nikita Kucherov and the Tampa Bay Lightning, who stormed to a 3-0 lead and clinched a 4-2 victory against the Islanders. The Islanders’ recent struggles leave them at 23-20-14, with a less-than-stellar 3-4-3 record in their last 10 games. They currently trail the third-place Flyers by seven points, but there’s hope with one game in hand.
