Rangers Edge Flyers in Nail-Biting Finish

The Flyers traveled to New York to take on the Rangers in the last game of the seven-game gauntlet.

With only 10 games remaining in the regular season and considering how close the playoff race is, the Flyers will be fighting for their lives in every game. Every point obtained is critical for securing a playoff spot.

First Period

The Flyers earned the game’s first power play when Adam Fox was called for hooking at the 17:42 mark of the first period. However, they struggled to enter the offensive zone as the Rangers applied heavy defensive pressure. Consequently, the Flyers only managed to muster a few shots on goal.

Flyers Strike First

Scott Laughton gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead at the 2:58 mark of the second period, receiving a nice pass from Travis Konecny to set him up as he put the puck over the glove of Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin. Konecny and Travis Sanheim were credited with assists.

Vincent Trocheck tripped Tyson Foerster to give the Flyers their second power play of the game at the 10:06 mark of the second period. The Flyers capitalized as Ryan Poehling tipped in a pass from Laughton backdoor, giving the Flyers a 2-0 lead. Poehling and Yegor Zamula were credited with assists.

The Rangers got their first power play of the game as Foerster was called for high-sticking at the 14:40 mark of the second period. Mika Zibanejad continued to trouble the Flyers as he scored with a snapshot past the blocker of Philadelphia’s goaltender Sam Ersson, bringing the Rangers within one at 2-1. Artemi Panarin and Fox were credited with the assists.

Rangers Rebound

Jonny Brodzinski tied the game for the Rangers at 2-2 at the 1:23 mark of the third period. Erik Johnson’s turnover allowed Brodzinski to fire a wrist shot past Ersson, with Kappo Kakko providing the only assist.

The Rangers claimed their first lead of the game as Alexis Lafrenière scored with a backhanded shot that found its way past Ersson. Benefiting from a fortuitous bounce off Ersson, Lafrenière’s goal put the Rangers ahead 3-2. The goal was unassisted.

Travis Konecny leveled the score at 3-3 at the 6:45 mark of the third period. On a 2-on-1 opportunity with Owen Tippett, Konecny beat Shesterkin with a shot to the glove side. The goal was unassisted.

The Flyers earned their third power play of the game when Zac Jones was penalized for high-sticking. However, Trocheck capitalized on a shorthanded breakaway opportunity, slipping the puck underneath Ersson’s left pad to give the Rangers a 4-3 lead. Zibanejad was credited with the lone assist.

Owen Tippett tied the game at 4-4 as he capitalized on a rebound, with the puck bouncing off the post and then off Shesterkin’s skate before finding the net at the 11:45 mark of the third period. Tippett was on a breakaway, with Morgan Frost providing the only assist.

Lafrenière netted his second goal of the game by getting a wrist shot over Ersson’s right shoulder, courtesy of another fortunate bounce off the Flyers’ goaltender, to give the Rangers a 5-4 lead. The goal was unassisted.

Tyson Foerster tied the game at 5-5 as he capitalized on a loose puck, putting it past Shesterkin after Garnet Hathaway’s initial shot sat on the goal line. Foerster’s goal was unassisted.
