The NHL Trade Deadline came and went at 3pm Monday afternoon and in the midst of a plethora of moves around the league, the Flyers made a couple of their own.

Justin Braun

Justin Braun was traded hours ahead of Monday’s 3pm deadline to the New York Rangers in exchange for a 2023 3rd round pick.

Braun had no shortage of suitors as many teams covet a player with his skillset to solidify their defense.

While he may not get the credit he deserves from Flyers fans and fans around the NHL, I would go so far as to say that Justin Braun is one of the very best 3rd pair defenseman in the NHL.

Flyers General Manager Chuck Fletcher traded for Justin Braun on June 18th, 2019 for a 2019 2nd round pick and a 2020 3rd round pick.

In 176 games with the Flyers, Braun scored 9 goals and recorded 32 assists with a +1 rating.

Derick Brassard

Derick Brassard was traded just as the 3pm deadline hit to the Edmonton Oilers for a 2023 4th round pick.

Speaking with multiple people leading up to the deadline, there wasn’t much chatter on Brassard and the idea of him being moved did not seem likely.

When healthy Brassard was extremely serviceable for the Flyers and even developed great chemistry with Cam Atkinson and Joel Farabee as line mates.

In Edmonton Brassard is likely to take on a bottom 6 role, more likely on the 4th line but is more than capable of holding down a 3rd line center role if need be.

The price Edmonton paid is a bit shocking because as mentioned earlier, it was not believed that Brassard would be moved with such a lack of interest from other clubs.
