As the Flyers organization heads into round two of interviews, let’s recap the most recent candidates.
According to Anthony Di Marco of The Fourth Period, the Flyers are wrapping up round one of interviews. Di Marco mentions the following candidates on the Stick to Hockey Podcast, hosted by Jason Myrtetus:
Dave Poulin was interviewed earlier this week. Di Marco states that more interest has been expressed by Poulin than by Comcast and that basically Poulin is lobbying for himself.
Dave Poulin is a name I’d expect to be getting an interview today or tomorrow (if he hasn’t already) for the #Flyers‘ President of Hockey Ops position.
Second round of interviews likely to start later in the week.

Scott Mellanby was interviewed last Thursday and/or Friday. The organization has a lot of respect for Mellanby and the Flyers scouting department prefers Mellanby says Di Marco.
The #Flyers are expected to interview Scott Mellanby for the President of Hockey Ops position this week and, reading the tea leaves, it could be as early as later today.

Doug Wilson, Cammi Granato, and Emily Castonguay are all in the mix in some capacity according to Di Marco, although I’ve recently been told that Castonguay is no longer being considered.
Shero Out on Flyers
Apparently Ray Shero was the Flyers choice from the jump. Unfortunately it sounds like Shero was his hands on the day-to-day hockey operations, where as Dan Hilferty is more looking for whoever takes on the role to focus more on working closely with Valeri Camillo, focusing on marketing strategies, and managing the salary cap. The Flyers will attempt to make a real effort to fix the salary cap going forward.
Shero has removed himself from consideration for the Flyers President of Hockey Ops job for those reasons.
As mentioned already, the hire will not be a traditional Hockey Operations hire. This person will not be Danny Briere’s boss. According to Di Marco the three will basically manage their different departments and report back to Hilferty who will very much have his finger on the pulse of the team.
Hilferty wants to properly distribute responsibility. Personally I love that strategy.
