It was the fourth game of the gauntlet and the last game against the Hurricanes for the regular season.

Head coach John Tortorella, pleased with the team’s performance in the previous game against Toronto, opted to maintain the current lineup without any changes, resulting in Captain Sean Couturier being scratched for a second consecutive game.

With only 13 games left in the season, the Flyers’ playoff prospects loom large, yet the path ahead is anything but simple. Nevertheless, now is the time for Flyers fans to embrace hope and rally behind their team.

First Period

The Hurricanes earned the game’s first power play as Morgan Frost was called for high-sticking at the 10:05 mark of the first period. However, they couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity as the Flyers blocked shots and disrupted their shooting lanes.

The Flyers earned their first power play of the game at the 12:58 mark when the Hurricanes were caught with too many men on the ice. They then gained a two-man advantage as Jordan Martinook was called for tripping. Despite the advantage, the orange and black couldn’t capitalize, but they managed to generate good shots on net, with Travis Konecny hitting the post.

Travis Sanheim took a tripping penalty 47 seconds into the second period, giving the Hurricanes their second power play of the game. The Flyers made it difficult for the Hurricanes to enter the offensive zone, limiting their shots on net.

Second Period

Jordan Martinook got the Hurricanes on the board first as he got a wrist shot past Philadelphia’s goaltender Sam Ersson. He received a nice pass from Martin Necas and put the puck over the blocker side. Necas and Pesce were credited with assists.

The Flyers responded quickly as Scott Laughton got a puck past Carolina’s goaltender Frederik Andersen on the breakaway. Joel Farabee made a nice centering pass to Laughton who put it over the left pad of Andersen. Farabee and Brink received the assists.

Jalen Chatfield propelled the Hurricanes to a 2-1 lead at the 10:43 mark of the second period, courtesy of a well-executed pass from Sebastian Aho, which set up Chatfield for a powerful slap shot from the blue line that found its way past Ersson. Aho and Orlov were credited with the assists on the play.

 Third Period

Andrei Svechnikov was penalized for cross-checking at the 5:58 mark of the third period, granting the Flyers their third power play of the game. They capitalized on the opportunity by generating numerous chances and shots on net, with Laughton narrowly missing a goal as he struck the post.

Travis Konecny leveled the score at 2-2 at the 10:16 mark of the third period with a wrap-around attempt finding the back of the net. Frost facilitated the goal with a between-the-legs pass, earning assists alongside Tippett.

The game progressed into overtime as neither team could break the deadlock late in the third period. Both teams secured a valuable point, with one more up for grabs.

Seth Jarvis secured victory for the Hurricanes in overtime, capitalizing on a 2-on-1 opportunity with Brent Burns. He slipped the puck just underneath Ersson’s glove for the game-winning goal.

Ersson was solid as he stopped 30 of 33 shots faced. Andersen played well as he saved 31 of 33 shots.

The Flyers’ power play struggled, going 0 for 3 on the night, while their penalty kill successfully neutralized both of Carolina’s power plays.

The Flyers lost a tough one but gained a very crucial point.
