Philadelphia Flyers vs Carolina Hurricanes
The Flyers 2 game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Panthers 2 days ago, now they head to Carolina to take on the Hurricanes. Carolina is currently on a 3 game winning streak as they welcome the orange and black to town. All odds per Barstool Sportsbook.
Game Lines
For the second straight game the Flyers (+240) are heavy underdogs. Despite what the oddsmakers say, Philadelphia has played the Hurricanes tough recently. In 7 of the last 8 meetings between these teams the Flyers have won (4 times) or lost by a single goal. That’s all the good news for the Flyers though, they’re 7-19 in their last 26 as road underdogs and 8-23 in their last 31 road games overall.
The Hurricanes (-305) are currently battling for the top spot in the Eastern Conference and are trying to wrap up this homestand at a perfect 4-0. The favorite is 4-1 in the last 5 head to head matchups between these teams and the rest of the trends look good for Carolina as well. The Canes are 5-1 in their last 6 against the Metro Division, 45-17 in their last 62 home games and 43-14 in their last 57 as a home favorite.
It would be stunning if the Flyers manage an upset against one of the conference’s major contenders, but despite the score they did play hard against Florida last game and have had some recent success against the Hurricanes. Carolina is coming off a big shutout victory over Colorado and has a huge matchup against the Penguins tomorrow. This has all the makings of a trap game. Flyers +1.5 (+100) again.
The total is set at 5.5 (O -125, U +104) for this afternoon’s contest. For Philadelphia the over is going strong right now, 4-0 in their last 4 as road underdogs, 8-1 in their last 9 against the Eastern Conference and 4-1 in their last 5 versus the Metro. The drawback to the over is on the Hurricanes side, they haven’t had a game with more than 5 goals since March 1st, but the over is 4-1 in the last 5 head to head matchups, so we’ll take the over today.
Prop Bets
Both Teams to Score at least 2 goals, Yes (-143)
The Hurricanes have seen both teams reach the 2 goal mark in 3 of their last 5 contests. While the Flyers have had both teams hit that number in 3 of their last 4. Both of these teams have scored less than two goals just once this month.
- Cam Atkinson Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-139)
Atkinson is averaging an even 3 shots on goal per game and he’s registered at least that in 4 of his last 5. He leads the Flyers with 171 shots on goal for the year and plays top 6 minutes with a safe role on their top power play unit.
- Total Goals First Period Over 1.5 (-125)
The Flyers just allowed four goals in the first period against the Panthers and the Hurricanes are just as talented. There’s always the possibility that Philadelphia manages to get off to a quick start and score one themselves, if that happens this line looks like a lock.
The Five for Tonght
- Flyers +1.5 (+100)
- Over 5.5 (-125)
- Both Teams to Score at least 2 Goals, Yes (-143)
- Atkinson Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-139)
