The Flyers kicked off their last set of back-to-back games of the season with a Saturday matinee against the visiting Boston Bruins.

Sean Couturier drew back into the lineup after being a healthy scratch for the past two games. Nicolas Deslauriers became a healthy scratch with Couturier drawing in.

First Period

The Bruins earned the game’s first power play as Yegor Zamula was called for interference at the 4:59 mark of the first period. However, they couldn’t capitalize as the Flyers blocked a few shots and cleared the puck when they had the opportunity.

Brad Marchand received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty at the 14-minute mark of the first period, giving the Flyers their first power play of the game. Despite the advantage, the Flyers didn’t manage to get any shots on net, and the Bruins wasted time by keeping the puck in the corner.

Cam York’s slashing penalty gave the Bruins their second power play of the game. However, it was shortened by 33 seconds as James van Riemsdyk was called for holding, resulting in a 4-on-4 situation.

Konecny Gets Flyers on the Board First

The Flyers obtained their third power play of the game as Andrew Peeke was called for high-sticking at the 16:43 mark of the second period. Travis Konecny capitalized on the opportunity, with the puck bouncing off Boston’s goaltender Linus Ullmark’s pad and into the net. Tyson Foerster’s shot was missed but went straight to Konecny. Foerster and Scott Laughton were credited with assists.

Flyers Pull Out Late Victory

Justin Brazeau leveled the game for the Bruins, scoring their first goal at the 10:19 mark of the third period with a backhanded shot past Philadelphia’s goaltender Sam Ersson. Charlie Coyle and Mason Lohrei were credited with assists.

Konecny regained the lead for the Flyers at 2-1 at the 15:16 mark of the third period, slipping the puck underneath the left pad of Ullmark for his second goal of the game. Morgan Frost and Owen Tippett were credited with assists.

The Bruins quickly responded as Danton Heinen scored, getting the puck up and over Ersson’s left shoulder. A great pass by Morgan Geekie set him up, with Geekie and Jake DeBrusk credited with assists.

Tyson Foerster extended the Flyers’ lead to 3-2 late in the third period, firing a shot over Ullmark’s left shoulder from the left point at the 18:31 mark. Ryan Poehling received the only assist.

The Bruins were unable to tie the game to force overtime as the Flyers secured two crucial points, giving themselves some breathing room in the division.

Ersson played solidly, saving 18 of 20 shots faced, while Ullmark performed well, saving 26 of 29 shots faced.

Flyers power play went 1 for 3 on the day and were able to kill off both of Boston’s power plays.
