This type of discussion never ends. Every single year, it’s the same old story. No, I’m not talking about how Ron Hextall seemingly set this team back nearly a decade. With Chuck Fletcher at the helm, he’s got the Flyers singing a different tune, and apparently looking for a new one to play every time they light the lamp.
From Van Halen’s smash 1978 hit “Ain’t Talkin’ bout Love,” to “My Songs Know what you did in the Dark,” from Fallout Boy, the Flyers have had a plethora of goal songs. With every regime change seemingly came a new goal song to chant to when the Flyers hit the back of the net. Par the course, the Flyers are now looking to add another tune to the already-growing list of goal songs this franchise has played over the loud speakers.
A new goal song at @WellsFargoCtr.

The best part about this time around is that the Flyers want to hear the opinions of their fans. It’s a great opportunity for everyone to get involved and voice their take on what they think the goal song should be. Fans should be excited about this opportunity. However, they should be more excited about the team on the ice.
On the ladder of importance, the goal song falls relatively low compared to what the team needs to achieve. A completely revamped Flyers team has some buzz surrounding them, so surely advertising a new goal song is just the cherry on top. While fun and intriguing, it shouldn’t take any thunder away from the offseason Chuck Fletcher and the Flyers had this season.
In all reality, the Flyers bought themselves some slack by having the offseason that they had. They could pick an absolute flop of a goal song and still keep the fans happy if this roster plays up to its potential. They could play “Doop” all season long and it wouldn’t bother me one bit. On the flip side, I’m not going to stand up and rock out to “Hell Yeah” by Rev Theory if Joel Farabee rips a wrister past the opposing goalie. I’m not going to headbang to “Kickstart My Heart” by Mötley Crüe in my living room after JvR slams one home on the powerplay.
When it comes to importance, the Flyers play when the season starts is much more important than a goal song. That should go without saying. While it is fun to imagine jamming to your favorite tune after the Flyers put one up on the scoreboard, does it really matter in the grand scheme of things? All we can hope for is that this team has learned from their past mistakes. No more songs like “Doop.” No EDM garbage. Give us something that will get the juices flowing. Give us something to chant with during the highest parts of the game. The main objective with a new goal song should be to keep fans excited and cheering after the Flyers score. One thing is universal, and that’s that we want to hear the song a lot this season.

Why do we need a song. Just cheer
