It’s another “Would You Rather Wednesday” and this one is a heavyweight battle…

We have two fan favorites in Rod “the bod” Brind’Amour and Mike Richards. Both played the game with passion, skill, and grit and both were ultimately traded from the Flyers.

Who would you rather have on your team?

On one side we have Mike Richards and I will admit before I continue that I am absolutely biased as Richards is my favorite all-time Flyer. I’ll try to keep that out of it though. Or maybe I won’t. I’ll leave that for you to decide.

So anyway, Mike Richards. The guy was the epitome of what it meant to be a Philadelphia Flyer. He played the game with reckless abandon. Putting his body on the line night in and night out for his team.

He could literally do it all. He could score, check, play well defensively, play-make, lead, party.

This shift. Absolute Filth from the captain.

Is there a better guy in the National Hockey League than Rod Brind’Amour? The man personifies excellence.

Through his career with the Flyers, Brind’Amour would amass 603 points in 633 games, nearly a point-per-game player.

While both Brind’Amour and Richards were short-handed specialists, Richards has the edge.

Both players scored 28 shorthanded goals apiece, however, Richards 28 in just 749 games, 23 coming in 453 games as a Flyer. While Brind’Amour would score 28 in 1,484 games. 18 coming as a Philadelphia Flyer.

Both players received votes for the Hart and Selke trophies throughout their NHL careers, while Brind’Amour was also received Lady Bang trophy votes.

If career longevity matters to you then Brind’Amour takes the cake here as he played for 20 seasons to Richards 11 and doubled Richards in games played with 1,484 to 749.

So who gets your vote?
