Throwback Thursday: Flyers’ Riley Cote was a Badass

In our first edition of Throwback Thursday we look back at the legend himself, Riley Cote.

A gladiator on the ice if there ever was one. A certified chief of bad-assery. An admiral and commander of the Iron League (AHL). A patrolman and guardsman of the red line:

I remember watching Cote when he was first on the Philadelphia Phantoms when I was a youth. If you attended any Phantoms or Flyers game from 2004 to 2010, then you were most likely treated to The Cote Special: 12 PIMS, 2 fights and a flex in penalty box (hopefully you didn’t bring your significant other to the game that day).

If you didn’t have the privilege of watching this man distribute pain to his fellow brawlers around the league, then I genuinely feel sorry for you because it was a sight to see. It’s like seeing Shamu at SeaWorld for the first time. Just mesmerizing.

DISCLAIMER: If you watch any of the following videos at work and it fired you up so much that you felt compelled to maul a co-worker, or even worse, punch a hole in the wall causing property damage, then I will not be held responsible in a court of law.

This has to be one of the earlier seasons where Cote made a name for himself with the Phantoms in 2004-2005:

280 PIMS in 61 games that year, is that good? That video reminds me of how fun the CREW of Riley Cote, Todd Fedoruk, Josh Gratton and Ben Eager was to watch.

Watch this Riley Cote compilation and proceed to have a happy rest of your day

Remember that time Cote KO’ed Andre Roy? Well, High & Wide Hockey remembers:

But that’s not all, get you some sandpaper that can do both, chuck knucks and snipe tucks:

I remember seeing a poll where Brian McGrattan was listed as one of the best fighters in NHL history, meanwhile Riley absolutely dummied him (if McGrattan ever reads this, I didn’t mean it and I’m a big fan):

I hope you enjoyed this throwback as much as I did. Stick taps, Riley.
