Three Players to Watch During Flyers Rookie Camp

With Flyers rookie camp underway, let’s look at three players I will be keeping a close eye on throughout the weekend.

Tyson Foerster

This one almost feels like a cop out but this is actually a pretty massive training camp coming up for the 21-year-old. Last season Foerster joined the Flyers for eight games and impressed Flyers head coach John Tortorella, scoring three goals and seven points in that span.

Tortorella even mentioned Foerster in interviews and said something like Foerster has given him a name to think about over the summer that maybe he wasn’t thinking about before.

The Flyers have an abundance of right wingers (we’re talking hockey relax) on the roster so they’ll have to shuffle some things around to make a spot for Foerster. Which is why it’s even more important for him to show out during camp to elevate himself above the others and show last season’s success wasn’t just a fluke.

Emil Andrae

Andrae is a popular name to watch as he jumped into and stood out in the Lehigh Valley lineup late last season. Andrae looked good during development camp and his Swedish club, HV71 Jonkoping, have given him permission to play this season in the states.

While the Flyers have quite a few vets on the roster, Andrae should still use this camp to make a real impression on the Flyers brass. Of the Flyers defensive prospects, Andrae and fellow Swede Helge Grans, are two players I am really looking forward to watching.

Andrae might have a hard time making the Flyers out of camp this year, but a good rookie camp would be a huge boost of confidence and separate himself somewhat heading into training camp next week.

Bobby Brink

Bobby Brink is a player I am really excited to watch, not only this weekend but all season long. Brink is a player with the offensive talents that would really benefit playing with the guys the Flyers currently have on the roster.

He is a smaller player with great vision and hockey IQ who is always looking to make a play and set up teammates. This would be a massive benefit to the Flyers as they have quite a few players who can shoot the puck.

Brink is coming into camp fully healthy this season and should be able to pick up where he left off last year. Hitting the ground running (or skating) will be massive in terms of standing out as he is one of the most skilled players currently in rookie camp.
