THE FLYERS AND RANGERS PLAYED GAME TWO OF THEIR ANNUAL ROOKIE GAME SERIES SATURDAY NIGHT AND SOME NEW FACES STOOD OUT IN BURNT ORANGE.
Drafted in the second round (54th overall) in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, Email Andrae’s stock has been rising of late. He helped push it higher Saturday night in Allentown as he showcased many of his talents on the Flyers top defensive pairing.
Right off the bat, the first thing I noticed with Andrae was his decision making. He reads the game incredibly fast and knows where each player is on the ice at all times. His first pass is always the right one and rarely put teammates in danger with forced play.
Andrae quarterbacked the Flyers top power play unit and while I am not straight up comparing him to Kimmo Timonen, I couldn’t help be reminded of Timonen while watching Andrae. He’s listed at 5’9 but has a stocky frame. He plays under control and is deliberate with his puck movement.
I loved that he was paired with fellow countrymen, Helge Grans, as I think that could be a future Flyers defense pair.
Andrae plays well in his own zone, not afraid to play physical in the corners and around goal. He also looked solid on the rush and can play in any situation whether it be 5v5, power play, or penalty kill.
The young Swede signed a three-year ELC with the Flyers in August and my assumption is that he will compete to make the Flyers till the end of camp and likely be sent to Lehigh Valley. Andrae would be my dark horse to make the Flyers though so I’ll be keeping a close eye on him.
