Former Philadelphia Flyers fan favorite Oskar Lindblom is having another tough season. Lindblom was signed by San Jose last summer after being bought out by the Philadelphia Flyers. You might remember fans being upset as they grew attached to Lindblom after rooting for him through his cancer diagnosis and treatment.
You might also remember fans being upset during the summer because the Flyers seemingly used the buyout money from Lindblom to sign NHL tough guy, Nicolas Deslauriers.
I understood the anger as Lindblom was a fan favorite and fans held a place in their heart for the player. Fans also were upset with the term on Deslauriers contract.
Fast forward into March of this season and I would argue that Nic Deslauriers is far more valuable to the Flyers than Oskar Lindblom, and here is why.
While signed for four seasons, Deslauriers brings leadership, toughness, and a “take no shit” attitude to a Flyers team that desperately needed some balls. Deslauriers bring accountability not just to the Flyers roster, but to the opponents as well.
Have you noticed less teams power bombing Flyers players into the ice? Thank Nic Deslauriers for that.
Add in that Deslauriers is making $750,000 less than Lindblom this season and next while also scoring the same amount of goals and just one less point.
Suddenly Deslauriers looks like a pretty major upgrade.
So trusty and loyal Flyers fans, I ask you.
