This week’s “Flyers Prospect Spotlight” shines on 2022 7th round pick, Alexis Gendron.
Born in Olten, Switzerland to Philadelphia Flyers Quebec-based scout, Martin Gendron, Alexis was drafted by the Flyers in last years NHL Entry Draft.
One might think having your son drafted to the team you work for would be a good thing, right? This was not the case for Alexis’s father. Martin Gendron had preferred another team to draft Alexis and he would recuse himself from contributing input on whether the Flyers should draft his son.
Eventually the Flyers would draft Gendron 220th overall.
“It’s a great feeling” said Alexis Gendron. “To live this moment in Montreal with my family. I have no words to describe it. It really means the world to me to be honest.”
Gendron would go on to be invited to Flyers Rookie camp and would later be sent to start his season with the Blainvile-Boisbriand Armada of the QMJHL where he had scored 30 goals the year before in just his second season.
Shoot-First Player
According to the Flyers official site contributor, Bill Meltzer, Gendron has always been a shoot-first player.
“He’s added some strength to his 5-foot-10 frame, although there’s always room for more muscle and more explosiveness. In addition to his ability to get to the scoring areas and put the puck in the net, Gendron is someone who plays bigger than his size. He will make a second or third effort on the puck and is not intimidated battling bigger opponents. It’s his competitive drive as well as his hands that stand out the most at the major junior level.”
After scoring 22 goals in 29 games for Blainville-Boisbriand, Gendron would be traded on December 18th, 2022 to the Gatineau Olympics.

Goal Scoring Machine
Gendron would find instant success with Gatineau as he would go on later to score 5 goals in a single game for the club. In total Gendron would tally 33 goals in 34 games for Gatineau and combined with the 22 he scored for Blainville-Boisbriand, Gendron would finish the year with a total of 55 goals in just 63 games. Good enough for second in the QMJHL behind only Alexandre Doucet.
I feel it’s worth noting that Jordan Dumais, who finished third in goals with 54, was a third-round pick (96th overall) of the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2022. Jacob Melanson, a 2021 fifth-round pick (131st overall) of the Seattle Kraken, tied Zachary Bolduc, a first-round pick (17th overall) of the St. Louis Blues for fourth with 50 goals.
Here’s Alexis Gendron’s five goal game. It’s all in French. Hell Oui.
Still Work to be Done
There’s no doubting Gendron’s goal scoring prowess as he currently has four goals in Gatineau’s two playoff games. However, prospect sites like Dobber Prospects, seem to think there is much to improve on for the former seventh round pick.
Dobber’s Hadi Kalakeche had this to say about Gendron.
An offensively gifted forward who possesses the ability to equally create quality chances for himself and his linemates. In need of considerable improvement to his skating and shot, Gendron’s ceiling could experience continued growth through refinement in those areas.
So while Alexis Gendron is continuing to have an amazing season, it’s still fair to say there’s still some work to be done.
It’s also not every day a Flyers prospect scores 55 goals.
Gendron isn’t the only former seventh round pick of the Flyers experiencing success of late, here’s hoping it continues.
