WELCOME TO THE SECOND EDITION OF LET IT FLY FRIDAYS WHERE YOU’LL NOT ONLY READ ABOUT FIVE FUN THINGS ABOUT YOUR PHILADELPHIA FLYERS, BUT ALSO FELLOW FLYERS FANS “LETTING IT FLY” ON THE BIRD APP!
Number 1: Carter Freaking Hart
There’s too many graphs and heat maps in this article but what’s most important is that Carter Hart is good. https://t.co/Ry9qI1llU1
— hoags (@PodStreetHoags) November 10, 2022
Sure he suffered his FIRST regulation loss just short of a month into the season but Carter Hart has been phenomenal through his first nine games of this season. Even after last night’s loss to Columbus, Hart is still rocking a 2.09 goals-against-average and a .941 save-percentage. There is only one other goalie in the entire NHL with a better save-percentage than our young prince and that’s Jake Oettinger who sports an insane .952 sv%. Uh yeah, that’s pretty good.
All in all I think it’s safe to say that Carter Hart has been pretty damn fun to watch through the first 13 games of the season.
Number 2: Travis Konecny
My biggest surprise of the year. Travis Konecny is my favourite Flyer right now
— Dan Knightly (@DanKnightly) November 3, 2022
With 15 points in his first 13 games of the season, I think it’s fair to say Travis Konecny is a lot of Flyers fans favorite player right now. The resurgence of Konecny early on this season has been a surprise to us all, and a pleasant one for a change. Coach John Tortorella is playing Konecny is all situations so far this season, showing trust and belief in his veteran winger.
Konecny may even take on a leadership roll when the day comes as Tortorella mentioned if he were to put a leadership group together, that TK would absolutely be apart of it. Fun stuff there.
Number 3: Wade Allison

— Nasty Knuckles (@NastyKnuckles) November 9, 2022
How can you not love this guy? He’s the definition of fun! A big bodied forward, who isn’t afraid to get a little greasy while still being able to produce offensively. Sure he’s only got 4 points thus far and was in the Tort’s doghouse last week but just the fact that Allison has been able to stay healthy enough to allow us to watch this specimen in action is absolutely a positive for me.
Through 28 career NHL games, Allison has collected seven goals and 4 assists, good enough for 11 points. That’s just two goals behind Flyers phenom center Morgan Frost, who has played in 89 NHL games. WOW.
Number 4: The Flyers are 7-4-2
I haven’t been able to watch a full game this year, but the brief glimpses I’ve seen are promising. I’m glad the Flyers are doing well. It’s good to see them playing hard and getting rewarded for it.
— Tommy Tsunami (@TomPhoti) November 9, 2022
The Philadelphia Flyers have won 7 of their first 13 games. Good enough for 16 points and 5th in the vaunted metro division. Oh and hey, they’re 13th in ESPN’s Power Rankings. So I guess what I am saying here is they aren’t the worst team in the league, like we all expected. No, they’re finding ways to win games. Is it pretty? No, not yet. But I don’t think a lot of us are watching the Flyers because we want to see pretty wins.
I think a lot of us appreciate the hard fought, grind it out, rely on your star goalie to pull you through wins. They’re ok, they count just as much as the pretty wins. A win is a win is a win and it’s always more fun than losing.
Number 5: The Flyers beat Claude Giroux
You can’t make this stuff up. Goal number 300 for our boy Claude Giroux, and it’s against the Flyers pic.twitter.com/wgvdKvp387
— Tie My Skates (@tiemyskatespod) November 5, 2022
Sure Claude Giroux scored his 300th goal against the team he captained for 15 years but who cares? The Flyers won lol. Look I’m not going to sit here and pretend to be the biggest Claude Giroux fan there ever was, because frankly I am not his biggest fan. However, I can appreciate what he did here as a player.
Claude Giroux is an all-time Philadelphia Flyers forever and fans were excited to see him play against as the Flyers won 2-1 up in Ottawa. For me personally though? I was just glad they found a way to get two points against the former captain. That was fun for me.
Claude Giroux just kicked Carter Hart his stupid stick when he lost it I hate this sport
— chipped tooth (@cursed_hockey) November 6, 2022
They’ll have another opportunity to beat their former leader tomorrow night at the Wells Fargo Center as Claude Giroux returns home looking for a win against his former club. The Flyers will be looking to bounce back from an ugly 5-2 loss and to go 2-0 vs the longest tenured captain in Flyers history.
EACH WEEK WE’LL PICK 5 FAN TWEETS TO INCLUDE IN THE “LET IT FLY FRIDAY: 5 FUN THINGS ABOUT THE PHILADELPHIA FLYERS” SERIES SO BE SURE TO TAG @FLYERSHW OR @JIMIKEHW IN YOUR TWEETS IF YOU WANT A SHOUT!
