Today, the first episode of season three of Hockey & Hounds featuring PSPCA pup Missy marks the official return of the program for the Flyers 2024-25 season.
After a successful second season garnering national attention and highlighting the softer side the Head Coach, Hockey & Hounds will once again feature a conversation between Head Coach John Tortorella and Flyers Broadcast Network host Jason Myrtetus to discuss not only Flyers hockey, but also his passion for animal welfare.
In each episode, Head Coach Tortorella will feature an adoptable dog available at one of the Flyers’ two partner shelters Pennsylvania SPCA and Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS). The dogs will also be featured throughout the season in Philadelphia Flyers radio game broadcasts and on the Hockey & Hounds homepage on PhiladelphiaFlyers.com.
Since launching with the Flyers in 2022, Hockey & Hounds has seen a 100 percent success rate with all dogs highlighted on Hockey & Hounds throughout the past two seasons finding their forever homes or foster homes.
“I understand the privilege and platform I have as a Head Coach,” said Tortorella. “My wife Christine and I, and all of us involved in this program at the Flyers, are passionate about animal welfare and I consider it such a blessing to be able to do this and hear the successful stats from past seasons. I am proud of it and honored to be a part of it.”
Fans can expect new episodes weekly on the Philadelphia Flyers Official YouTube Channel and other streaming platforms to hear about the Dog of the Week, ways they can help the cause and the latest on-ice updates right from Head Coach Tortorella all season long.
