Another game and another win for team USA at the World Championships.

The Americans are now 3-0 in the tournament and currently lead group A after a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Germany.

A lot of USA’s success has come from their young players like Flyers’ prospects Cutter Gauthier and Ronnie Attard who have been right in the thick of things for the United States.

Cutter Gauthier

Gauthier is one of two 19-year-olds on the club and now has two goals in the tournaments’ first three games.

Despite his choice to return to college next season, Gauthier has very much looked like a professional in these games. His quality shot and impressive straight line speed have been on display throughout the tournament.

The World Championships are proving to be an invaluable learning experience for Gauthier. Playing against men, many of whom are playing at a higher level than Gauthier, should prepare the former 5th overall pick for what’s to come once he’s ready to make the leap to the pros.

Ronnie Attard

Defensemen Ronnie Attard, on the other hand, has also shown a little bit of promise offensively as well. The AHL All-Star collected his first point of the tournament against Germany on a one-time bullet from Michael Eyssimount and T.J. Tynan.

‘This season playing for Ian Lapierre’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Attard registered 12 goals and 20 assists in his best professional season to date.

The Flyers organization doesn’t have a plethora of right-shot defenseman in their system at the moment, making Attard one of the better in-house options. The Flyers are hoping that he could be ready to contribute as soon as next season.

Attard owns intriguing potential. Like Gauthier, the opportunity to play against professional players offers additional experience for when it’s time to make the full-time jump to the NHL.

The USA returns to action on Saturday, when they match-up with Austria.
