Gambler’s Guide: Washington Capitals vs Philadelphia Flyers

Washington Capitals vs Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers continue their march towards history, three 10+ game losing streaks in a single season, while the Capitals continue their march towards the playoffs when these teams face off in Philadelphia this afternoon.

Money Line and Total

It’s getting more and more difficult to find anything positive for the Flyers (+155), with just two wins in 2022, so it’s no surprise they are once again the underdogs. Philadelphia is 5-17 in their last 22 games against the Metro division, 3-24 in their last 27 versus the Eastern Conference and 15-36 in their last 51 overall.

The only team with something to play for today, the Capitals (-180) are sitting in the first wildcard spot and looking to climb the standings. Washington is 4-0 in their last 4 games on one days rest, 5-1 in their last 6 on the road and 38-14 in their last 52 contests as road favorites.

Philadelphia hasn’t won since before the All-Star break and seem determined to secure as many 10 game losing streaks as possible this season. Meanwhile the Capitals are desperate to keep pace in the playoff race, it bodes well for them that Washington is 5-0 in their last 5 games in Philadelphia and the favorite is 18-8 in the last 26 meetings in this series. Take the Caps today.

The total is set at 6 (O -110, U -110) and like most recent Flyers games the over looks strong again today. Washington has seen the over go 5-2 in their last 7 against the Metro division and in their last 7 versus teams with losing records. While for the Flyers the over is 7-0 in their last 7 against the Eastern Conference, 4-0 in their last 4 versus the Metro and 5-1 in their last 6 overall. Take the over today.

Prop Bets

Washington Capitals Over 3.5 Total Goals (-110)

In the six games since the All-Star break the Flyers have allowed 4+ goals six times and there doesn’t seem to be any reason to believe that won’t continue today. Philadelphia allows 33.74 shots against per game and the Capitals are averaging 31.33 shots a game, expect Washington to have plenty of chances to find the back of the net in this one.

  • Both Teams to Score 2+ Goals, Yes (-185)

The Capitals have held a team to less than 2 goals just once in the month of February and have scored less than 2 goals only one time as well this month. Philadelphia, despite their best efforts to be completely inept, have managed to score 2+ goals in 8 of their last 9 games.

  • Travis Konecny Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (+105)

Konecny is averaging 2.65 shots on goal through 49 games this year and he’s hit 3+ shots on goal in 3 of his last 5 contests. Konecny is also averaging 2:42 of powerplay time per game for the season, so he’ll have plenty of opportunities to get the puck on net.

The Five for Today

  1. Capitals (-180)
  2. Over (-110)
  3. Capitals Over 3.5 Total Goals (-110)
  4. Both Teams to Score 2+ Goals, Yes (-185)
  5. Konecny Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (+105)
