Gambler’s Guide: Washington Capitals vs Philadelphia Flyers

Washington Capitals vs Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers host the Capitals tonight in the midst of a three game losing streak and kicking off an eight game homestand. The Caps have won two of their last three and are in the middle of a four game road trip. All odds per FanDuel Sportsbook.

Money Line and Total

Philadelphia (+150) enters tonight’s matchup as the underdog, winning just two games in seven weeks will make you the underdog pretty frequently. The Flyers are 7-19 in their last 26 games on one days rest, 3-13 in their last 16 against the Metro and 13-38 in their last 51 versus teams with winning records. So things look bleak tonight.

The Capitals (-182) are trying to keep pace in the ultra competitive Metropolitan Division and a game against the Flyers should do just that. Washington is 4-0 in their last 4 away games and 37-14 in their last 51 as a road favorite. The Caps are also 4-0 in their last 4 meetings on Broad St, another trend in their favor is the road team is 7-2 in the last 9 head to head games between these two.

While things certainly don’t look good for the Flyers in this one it should be noted that Philadelphia has won the game or lost by just a single goal in the last three games against the Caps. The Flyers also tend to play their division opponents tough, having lost by 2+ goals just once in their last 6 divisional contest. Philadelphia +1.5 (-176) is the bet tonight.

Tonight’s game has a 6 (0 -110, U -112) goal total and Flyers games have hit 6+ goals in 5 of their last 6. The over is 5-1 in the Flyers last 6 overall and their last 6 playing on one days rest. The over is 4-1 in Washington’s last 5 games against the Metro and in the most recent 44 meetings in Philadelphia the over is 29-13-2. It’s the over again tonight.

Prop Bets

  • 60 Min Philadelphia Total Goals Over 2.5 (-104)

The Flyers have scored 3+ goals in 5 of their last 6 games and the Caps have allowed 3 or more goals in 4 of their last 6. With the Flyers playing their divisional foes close and this game projecting as a high scoring affair expect the orange and black to have to score goals to stay in this one.

  • Cam Atkinson Over 3.5 Shots on Goal (+126)

While this bet definitely requires some faith, Cam has cleared 4+ shots on goal in 19 games this season, he’s also hit 3 shots on goal an additional 9 times, that’s 28 out of 48 games he’s cleared this mark or was within striking distance. He’s going to play on the top line and the top power play unit tonight, he’ll get his chances to get the puck on net.

  • Martin Jones Over 29.5 Saves (-110)

Washington is averaging 31.35 shots on goal a game, meanwhile the Flyers are allowing 34.14 shots against per game, odds are Jones gets peppered tonight and likely sees 33+ shots tonight. If Jones just doesn’t have an early game collapse there’s a strong possibility he could allow 3+ goals and still make more than 29 saves.

The Five for Tonight

  1. Flyers +1.5
  2. Over 6
  3. Flyers Over 2.5 Goals
  4. Atkinson Over 3.5 Shots on Goal
  5. Jones Over 29.5 Saves
