Gambler’s Guide: San Jose Sharks vs Philadelphia Flyers

San Jose Sharks vs Philadelphia Flyers

After fielding a near AHL level roster and taking a beating at the hands of the Penguins in front of their hometown fans the Flyers welcome in the San Jose Sharks to town tonight. The Gambler’s Guide went 3 out of 5 against Pittsburgh and will look to keep the momentum going. All odds from Draftkings Sportsbook.

Money Line and Total

Philadelphia (-105) is a home underdog again but it is much closer this time than the last few games. However regardless of what the odds are the trends still don’t look very good for the Flyers, they’re 16-36 in their last fifty-two games, 2-8 in their last ten on one day’s rest and 5-16 in their last twenty-one as home underdogs.

The Sharks (-115) are the favorite for tonight’s matchup and while the recent trends don’t look promising for them, historically San Jose has owned the Flyers. The Sharks are 1-4 in their last five after a win and 1-4 in their last five road games. But the Sharks are 10-2 in the last twelve matchups in Philadelphia and 22-4-2 in the last twenty-eight meetings overall.

The odds makers think this will be a close game and there is a revenge narrative with Martin Jones facing his old team for the first time but the Flyers are still short handed tonight and the Sharks are simply the better team right now. The Sharks -115 is the bet tonight.

The total for tonight’s contest is 5.5 (O -120, U +100) and riding the over in Flyer’s games has been a smart strategy lately. In Philadelphia games the over is 5-0 in their last five games as a home underdog, 8-0 in their last eight home games and 8-2 in their last ten on one day’s rest. The over is 18-8-2 in the Sharks last twenty-eight games as a road favorite and the over is 4-1 in the last five contests between these two. Take the over again tonight.

Player Props

  • Martin Jones Over 27.5 Saves (-115)

Jones has started and finished twelve games in this season, in those twelve games he’s made 28+ saves in eleven of them. The other game he made 27. With the Flyers giving up 34.73 shots against a game and San Jose averaging 29.28 shots per game, expect Jones to have to make plenty of saves in this one.

  • Kevin Hayes Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (+110)

Hayes is averaging just slightly below this for the year, 2.25/game but he does have 63 shot attempts good for an average of 3.93 a game. With the Flyers still missing key pieces of their forward group Hayes will be relied on in all situations tonight and he’s had 4+ shots on goal in two of his last three games.

Game Props

  • Both Teams to Score 2+ Goals, Yes (-180)

Philadelphia has seen both teams hit this mark in six of their last seven contests while the Sharks have seen it happen in six straight. Each of these teams are playing in high scoring games lately with Flyers seeing 5+ goals in ten straight games and the Sharks seeing that mark in nine of their last eleven.
