Gambler’s Guide: Philadelphia Flyers vs San Jose Sharks

Philadelphia Flyers @ San Jose Sharks

Fresh off an ugly looking 3-2 overtime win against Seattle the boys in orange and black head to San Jose to take on the Sharks. All odds from Draftkings Sportsbook.

Money Line and Total

The Flyers (+145) enter tonight’s contest as the underdog but the recent trends tell a positive story for them. Philadelphia is 5-1 in their last six games overall, 6-1 in their last seven against the Pacific Division and 3-1 in their last four road games.

San Jose (-170) may be the favorites tonight coming off an 8-7 victory over Arizona but they haven’t won back to back games since Nov 30/Dec 2 and are 3-7 in their last ten games following a win. The Sharks have also struggled in the third game of three games in four nights situations, going 17-37 in their last fifty four such instances.

The fatigue factor that Philadelphia might have to deal with playing in a back to back scenario is offset by the Sharks having to contend with their own heavy work load in recent days. The Flyers are picking up momentum lately and finding ways to win even when they don’t play their best, expect that to continue here, Philadelphia outright tonight.

The total is set at an even 6 (O +105, U -125) tonight and the over is looking good. San Jose’s games have reached 6 or more goals in five of their last seven, while the Flyers have seen that total or higher in six of their last nine games.

The recent betting trends reinforce those numbers, in Flyers games the over is 4-1 in the last five overall, 5-1 in their last six against teams with winning records and 13-6-1 in their last twenty versus the Western Conference. On the Sharks side the over is 5-2 in their last seven overall and 6-1 in their last seven in the third game of a three in four night stretch. Take the over again tonight.

Player Props

  • Brent Burns Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-105)

Burns is currently averaging 2.58 shots on goal per game this season and even more encouraging he has 173 shots attempted on the year, good for a 5.58 average. Meanwhile the Flyers are giving up 34.63 shots against a game, including 36 last night against the Kraken.

Game Props

  • Both Teams to Score 2+ Goals, Yes (-180)

The 6 goal total already suggest that the oddsmakers expect plenty of scoring in this one, in addition to that both teams have scored 2 or more goals in five of the Sharks last seven games. Philadelphia has seen each team score 2+ goals in six of their last eight games.

Team Props

  • Flyers Over 2.5 Goals (-125)

This game sets up as a high scoring Flyers win tonight, so it will take them at least 3 goals to accomplish that but their Over 3.5 Goals (+190) looks good as well. Philadelphia has scored 3+ goals in six of their last eight and 4+ goals in five of their last eight games.
