Philadelphia Flyers @ New Jersey Devils

The Flyers actually showed some fight in their 7-5 loss to the Avalanche two nights ago and tonight they kick off a three game road trip in New Jersey against the Devils. After going a perfect 5 for 5 in the Avs game the Gambler’s Guide is looking for a repeat performance tonight.

Money Line and Total

The Devils (-145) are the favorite tonight despite riding a lengthy losing streak of their own, four games, the last team they beat was the Flyers. New Jersey is 1-5 in their last six games as a favorite and the home team is 5-1 in the last six meetings between these teams. But the Devils are 11-27 in their last 38 home games.

The Flyers (+125) enter this contest as the underdog for the sixteenth straight game. Philadelphia is 5-1 in their last six against teams with losing records. However they’re 2-5 in their last seven games against the Metropolitan Division and 1-4 in their last five meetings with the Devils.

With no clear direction from the betting trends and the Flyers currently shrouded in chaos, going safe in this one seems smart. In eight of the last nine games between these two the Flyers have won or lost by 2 goals or less, they should at least keep it close again making the Flyers +1.5 (-180) the bet tonight.

The total is set at 6 (O -120, U +100) for tonight’s contest. The Flyers last two opponents each scored 7 goals and cleared the over on their own. The Devils have had their own problems stopping the puck, having allowed 5 or more goals in three of their last four games. The over is 5-1 in the Devils last six and 4-1 in the Flyers last five in addition to being 5-1-1 in the last seven contests these teams played against each other. Take the over again tonight.

Player Props

  • Travis Konecny Over 2.5 Shots on Goal -120

Konecny is currently averaging 2.86 shots on goal per game. TK is also third among Flyers forwards in average time on ice, 17:16, along with getting over 2 ½ minutes (2:48) of power play time a night.

Game Props

  • Both to Score 2+ Goals, Yes -200

As noted above both of these teams struggle to keep pucks out of their own net and the last game between these teams saw 7 goals scored. The Devils have scored 2+ goals in nine of their last ten games while the Flyers have scored at least 2 goals in three of their last five.

  • First Goal Before 9:30 (-135)

Both the Flyers and the Devils continue to see the scoring start very early in their contests. The first goal has been scored before the 9:30 mark in each of New Jersey’s last six games. Philadelphia has a nice streak of their own, with the first goal coming before the 9:30 mark in seven straight contests.

The Five for Tonight

  2. Over 6 -120
  3. Travis Konecny Over 2.5 Shots on Goal -120
  4. Both Teams to Score 2+ Goals, Yes -200
