Gambler’s Guide: New York Rangers vs Philadelphia Flyers

New York Rangers vs Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers dropped their contest to the Bruins, 3-2, two days ago and now they get ready to host the New York Rangers hoping to stop the bleeding and try to salvage their season. Against Boston the Gambler’s Guide went 2 for 5 and will try to improve on that performance tonight. All odds from Draftkings Sportsbook.

Money Line and Total

Entering today’s matchup as the underdogs once again the Flyers (+130) are trying to stop multiple recent trends. Philadelphia is 2-7 in their last nine at home, 7-19 in their last twenty-six against teams with winning percentages above .600 and overall.  They’ve also dropped both of their most recent matchups with the Rangers, but they are 7-3 versus New York in the last 10 in Philadelphia and 13-6 in the last nineteen head to head meetings overall.

New York (-150) has been alternating wins and losses over their last five games and are coming off a 3-0 win against San Jose on Thursday. The Rangers are 5-0 in their last five games against the Metro Division and 15-2 in their last seventeen versus the Eastern Conference. They’re also on a 5-2 run in their last seven games overall and the favorite is 15-6 in the last twenty-one meetings between these two teams.

The trends and recent performances are favoring the Rangers a bit here but there’s enough there to show that the Flyers have a chance in this one at home. New York’s recent inability to put consecutive wins together paired with the Flyers’ home success in the head to head contests suggests at a minimum this will be a close game. The Flyers +1.5 (-195) is the bet tonight.

It’s a 5.5 (O -115, U -105) total for tonight’s contest and the trends are telling two different stories. On New York’s side the under looks strong having gone 5-0-1 in their last six overall and 20-6 in their last twenty-six as road favorites. For the Flyers the over has been the bet recently, going 8-1 in their last nine at home and 8-3 in their last eleven on one day’s rest. Head to head the under is 4-0 in their last four meetings. Take the under today.

Team Props

  • Flyers Under 2.5 Total Goals (-115)

Philadelphia has scored 2 or less goals in four straight games and five of their last six. They also haven’t scored more than two goals against the Rangers in three of the last four meetings. In addition to that the Rangers haven’t allowed 3+ goals in six straight games.

Game Props

  • Both Teams to Score 2+ Goals, No (+120)

With this game projecting for a low scoring affair, goals will be coming at a premium. The Rangers haven’t seen each team score 2 or more goals in six games.  Both teams scored 2+ in just one of the last four matchups between these two.

  • First Goal After 9:30 (-105)

New York hasn’t seen a goal before the 9:30 mark in five straight games, while the Flyers have been alternating hitting that mark over their last four contests. With offense looking like it’ll be hard to come by tonight it could be awhile before we see the first goal in this one.

The Five for Tonight

  1. Flyers (-195)
  2. Under (-105)
  3. Flyers Under 2.5 Total Goals (-115)
  4. Both Teams to Score 2+ Goals, No (+120)
  5. First Goal After 9:30 (-105)
