New York Islanders vs Philadelphia Flyers
Up in New York the Flyers put forth an embarrassing effort and lost 4-1, tonight we run it back but on Broad St. Same opponent but new venue and different goalies, we’ll see if it makes a difference for the boys in orange and black. The Gamblers Guide went 3 for 5 for the second straight game and looks to stay at or above the 60% mark.
Money Line and Total
Even with the game moving to Philadelphia, Carter Hart slated to start and the Islanders starting their back up goaltender with a 2-6-1 record it wasn’t enough to prevent the Flyers (+110) from being the underdogs again. Being on an eight game losing streak is all we really need to know about the Flyers current trends, however it should be noted that they’re 5-2 against teams with a winning percentage below .400.
The Islanders (-130) might be the favorite in this one but there are some concerning signs. New York is 1-6 in their last seven road games and their 0-4 in their last four games on zero days rest. They’ve also won back to back games just three times all season and their 6-10 on the road this year.
This is a matchup between two bad teams and the trends kind of say that both deserve to lose this one. The Islanders year long struggle to win on the road and put together consecutive victories could be enough for the Flyers to snap their current losing streak and save themselves from being on the verge of achieving 2 ten game losing streaks in under two months. Flyers (+110) outright tonight.
The total is set at 5.5 (O +115, U -135) and considering the ineptitude of the two offenses competing in tonight’s contest the under is looking strong. New York’s games have hit the under in their last four against teams with losing records, it’s 5-0 in their last five overall and 6-0 in their last six versus the Eastern Conference. The Flyers have seen the under cover in their last four overall and the under is 4-1 in their last five of the second half of home and home sets. It’s the under again tonight.
Player Props
- Semyon Varlamov Under 27.5 Saves (-110)
Varlamov has had 26 saves or less in six of his last nine appearances. While the Flyers are averaging 30.52 shots a game but have reached 30+ shots on goal just once in their last six contests. If nothing else there’s always the possibility the Flyers are just as disinterested as they were last night and don’t even bother to shoot.
Team Props
- Flyers Over 2.5 Total Goals (-110)
Over the course of their sixteen road games this season the Islanders have given up 3 or more goals in ten of them. In addition to their team defense struggling away from New York, Varlamov has allowed 3+ goals in seven of his ten appearances this season. Of course counting on Philadelphia’s ability to score isn’t for the faint of heart.
- Both Teams Score 2+ Goals, Yes (-140)
In New York’s last thirteen contests both teams have reached 2 goals in eight of them. For the Flyers both teams have scored 2+ goals in nine of their last eleven games. Putting faith either of these offenses is hard to fathom, but faith in both of them is almost unimaginable, however the numbers say it looks good.
The Five for Tonight
- Flyers (+110)
- Under 5.5 (-135)
- Varlamov Under 27.5 Saves (-110)
- Flyers Over 2.5 Total Goals (-110)
- Both Teams Score 2+ Goals (-140)
