Gambler’s Guide Carolina Hurricanes @ Philadelphia Flyers

Carolina Hurricanes @ Philadelphia Flyers

After dropping back to back games to the Lightning and Panthers, the Flyers are home against the Carolina Hurricanes for a Saturday afternoon game. The Gambler’s Guide went 5 out of 10 on that Florida road trip and is 13 out of 20 over the last four games. All odds from Draftkings Sportsbook.

Money Line and Total

The Flyers have now dropped four in a row and will be the underdogs (+125) for the eleventh consecutive game. There’s some signs of hope for tonight though, the Flyers are 4-0-1 in their last five versus the Hurricanes and Carolina has struggled lately in Philadelphia posting a 12-25-2 record in the last thirty nine games on Broad St.

The Hurricanes (-150) are the favorite tonight, making it seven straight games as the favorite for Carolina. The Canes are 7-1 in their last eight against the Metro and the favorite is 5-2 in the last seven meetings between these two teams. Despite the Flyers recent struggles this looks like a game they can take, Carolina is at the end of a six game road trip and Philadelphia’s recent success against the Canes makes the Flyers the bet today.

The total is set at 5.5 (Over -115, Under -105) and based off of the trends from both teams the under is looking good tonight. Only three of the Flyers last eleven games have gone over 5 goals, while just two of the Hurricanes last eight games saw 5+ goals. The under is 6-1-1 overall in Carolina’s last eight games and 5-1-1 in their last seven as a favorite. The under is 4-0 in the Flyers last four games against Metro division opponents. Go with the under tonight.

Player Props

  • Claude Giroux Over 2.5 shots on goal (-110)

Giroux has been very consistent with his shots on goal lately, reaching 3+ shots on goal in four of his last five games. The captain is also averaging 3.27 shots on goal per game for the season, good for the team lead at 59.

  • Sebastian Aho Over 2.5 shots on goal (-130)

Aho is second on his team with 53 shots on goal this year, a 2.94 per game average. He’s also reached at least 3 shots on goal in six of his last ten games. Aho also leads all Canes forwards with 19:32 of average time on ice, giving him plenty of opportunities to get the puck at the net.

Team Props

  • Flyers over 2.5 goals Excluding OT (-105)

Team and game props are very game script dependent which means thinking through how the game might go helps determine the preferred prop, in this case siding with the Flyers money line and the under we’re looking at a low scoring Flyers win. However considering that the Flyers have hit 3 or more goals in five of their last six games against Carolina, it’s unlikely that low scoring win is of the 1-0 or 2-1 variety.
