As the NHL trade deadline concludes, Philadelphia Flyers fans can reflect on the team’s moves.
Acquiring a First for Walker
General Manager Danny Briere initiated early trade activities by sending defenseman Sean Walker to the Colorado Avalanche, accompanied by a 2026 5th-round pick. In exchange, the Flyers acquired the Avalanche’s 2025 1st-round pick and forward Ryan Johansen. Johansen, boasting 13 goals and 10 assists for 23 points in 63 games this season, was subsequently placed on waivers, ultimately clearing them and should report to Lehigh Valley.
Flyers Acquire Gurianov and Johnson
On the official trade deadline day, Briere further bolstered the team’s roster by acquiring depth forward Denis Gurianov and defenseman Erik Johnson. Both Gurianov and Johnson are set to join the team for their upcoming game in Tampa.
Gurianov, who was previously with the Nashville Predators, brings additional speed to the team, despite his modest season stats of one goal and one assist. At 26 years old, Gurianov holds promise for future contributions and is expected to make an appearance in the Flyers’ next game.
Erik Johnson, acquired from the Buffalo Sabres, is poised to serve as a mentor for the young players and address defensive gaps due to injuries. With 3 goals in 50 games, Johnson’s experience will be a valuable asset. The Flyers traded a 2024 4th-round pick for his services, and he is anticipated to be in the lineup for the upcoming game in Tampa.
Goodbye Wade Allison
The Flyers bid farewell to forward Wade Allison, trading him for Gurianov. Despite being drafted as the 22nd pick in the second round in 2016, Allison, who hadn’t played a game for the Flyers this season, was not part of their future plans. Briere strategically made the decision to trade him.
