Flyers’ Gauthier Scores, US Defeats Finland 4-1

After a late first period goal from Finland’s Teemu Hartikainen, team USA scored four unanswered goals en route to their first win at the IIHF World Championships on Friday. The goal scoring barrage began with Flyers prospect, Cutter Gauthier, who all in all was pretty productive for the Americans.

The 19-year-old played sparingly in the contest, logging just 11:25 of total time on ice for the game. He did however register five shots on goal for the US and a plus-1 rating. It was a good sign to see the Flyers prized prospect no worse for wear after taking a high hit from Germany’s Nico Strum in the tune-up friendly on Tuesday.

He skated well in this one. Check out his snipe right here:

Defensemen Ronnie Attard wasn’t as noticeable today as he was in the Friendly against Germany (he ended up with a goal and an assist in that one). He played decently enough in his 15:27 time on ice for the US in the tournament opener. He didn’t look out of place though in a game that had some sloppy moments and pace.

Gauthier, Attard, and team USA will return to action on Sunday when they take on Hungary at Noki Arena in group A action.
