Flyers Claw Out a Victory Over Florida

It was the beginning of a two-game road trip in Florida, and this marked the Flyers’ final game before the NHL Trade Deadline.

Travis Konecny returned to the lineup after missing six games with an upper-body injury. He left practice early back on February 23rd and had not played in a game since.

Ronnie Attard was also in the lineup for the first time this season with the injury to Nick Seeler.

No goals were scored in the first period. However, both Konecny and Sam Reinhart had great chances on breakaways.

The Flyers got off to a great start as they had their skating legs but missed the net on a lot of shots. The Panthers outshot the Flyers 12 to 5 in the period.

Flyers Take the Lead

Ryan Poehling gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead just ten seconds into the second period as he received a nice pass from Cam York and put it up and over the right shoulder of Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky. Assists were awarded to York and Travis Sanheim.

The Flyers got the game’s first power play as former Flyer Nick Cousins was called for tripping Yegor Zamula. The orange and black were unable to score a goal and only managed to record one shot on goal.

Panthers Tie it Up

Gustav Forsling tied the game up at one at the 7:12 mark of the second period. The Flyers were unable to clear the puck and got caught on a long shift. Aaron Ekblad and Anton Lundell were awarded assists on the goal.

The Panthers got their first power play of the game as Marc Staal was called for tripping at 8:02. Florida couldn’t capitalize as the Flyers did a great job defensively and Sam Ersson made a huge pad save on Alexander Barkov.

The game went to 4 on 4 at the 13:17 mark as Garnet Hathaway was called for roughing and Matt Tkachuk was called for slashing. Neither team was able to score a goal, but both goaltenders made great saves.

There was a lot of tight checking in the third period as both teams had trouble navigating the offensive zone. Both teams stayed disciplined in the period as well.

Hathaway Gives Flyers Late Lead

Hathaway gave the Flyers a 2-1 lead with 21 seconds remaining in the third period. He collected a rebound off a Staal shot from the blue line and put it past Bobrovsky. Staal and Noah Cates were awarded the assists.

Ersson and Bobrovsky were very solid as they both made huge saves throughout the game. Ersson saved 22 of 23 shots and Bobrovsky saved 12 of 14 shots.

Both teams’ power play went scoreless as they each went 0 for 1.
