Flyers Announce “A NEW ERA OF ORANGE”

Keith Jones, Danny Briere, John Tortorella…what’s not to be excited about?

The Philadelphia Flyers announced this morning that they are ushering in a new era of orange.

They began the day with this statement to the fans:

“We have new voices, new perspectives, and new plans, but this is still Flyers hockey, so the goal remains the same: Win.”

Not long after the team released that message, they announced that Keith Jones would be the new President of Hockey Operations and Danny Briere would officially be the teams General Manager.

Just writing that brings me joy. Two beloved names amongst fans taking on massive roles within the organization.

Keith Jones

Born November 8, 1968, Keith Jones has been broadcasting NHL games since the 2005-06 season and has worked with stations such as NBCSN, TNT, TBS, and was also a color commentator for the Flyers. From 2002 until 2023, Jones was a fixture on WIP’s morning show alongside legendary talk-show host, Angelo Cataldi.

Jones grew up in Paris, Ontario which happens to be the same hometown of the great, Wayne Gretzky.

Drafted in 1988 by the Washington Capitals, Jones would play in a total of 491 NHL games for the Caps, Avalanche, and Flyers.

Well liked, respected, and known by all Flyers fans, Jones will be a crucial voice in turning this franchise around.

Danny Briere

On March 10, 2023, Danny Briere was named interim GM for the Philadelphia Flyers after having been Special Assistant to the GM for a little over a year.

Briere was drafted in 1996 by the Phoenix Coyotes where he would play just two seasons before being traded to the Buffalo Sabres. It was in Buffalo where Briere began to make a name for himself as he lead Buffalo on two long playoff runs and even recorded a 95 points season in 2006-07.

During the summer of 2007, Briere signed with the Philadelphia Flyers where he would go on to become one of the most beloved Flyers of his era. Remembered mainly for his playoff success and big time goals, Briere would score 30 points in just 23 games for the Flyers en route to a Stanley Cup Finals appearance in 2009-10.

In 2017 after Briere’s playing career was finished,  he was appointed to run the Maine Mariners, whom Comcast Spectacor had just bought. On May 11, 2023 Danny Briere was officially named General Manager of the Philadelphia Flyers.
