Yesterday’s Recap: 1-2, +0.2u (Overall +2.84u)

Nothing really to complain about yesterday. We had a couple tough loses, but overall still broke even on the day. Anytime you break even, think of it as a win. I’ve liked my approach to bets so far this season and I’m not going to stop taking the same approach. All it takes is one big day to make good profit and the way I bet, I don’t need to win every time to make money.

Let’s dive into today’s plays…

Bet #1 – Hughes o3.5 Shots & Caufield o2.5 Shots (+203)

Targeting the Devils for shots tonight is an absolute must. The Devils have averaged 39.5 shots per game, while the Red Wings have allowed an average of 32.8 shots per game. Jack Hughes averaged 3.4 shots per game last season, hitting over 3.5 shots 45% of the time. He has hit that mark in 5 of 6 games this season, including a game against Detroit, where he had 7 shots on goal.

I also like Cole Caufield tonight against the Minnesota Wild, who have allowed an average of 35.2 shots per game so far this season. Caufield hit on over 2.5 shots in 58% of his games last season and has hit in 4 of 6 games this season. He struggled against Dallas last game with only 1 shot, so I expect him to have a bounce back game tonight.

Bet #2 – Kucherov & Backlund o2.5 Shots (+217)

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. If you are going to give me either Kucherov or Stamkos over 2.5 shots, I will take it. These guys are so easy to pair with other players for plus money, I will do it every single time. The LA Kings have allowed 34.1 shots per game so far this season and Kucherov has hit over 2.5 in 4 of 6 games so far this season.

Mikael Backlund has hit over 2.5 shots in 4 of 5 games (80%) so far this season. He hit this mark in 46% of games last year. The Penguins have allowed an average of 37 shots per game this year. I was between Backlund and Lindholm for this 2nd pick, but Lindholm has only hit the over once this year, which essentially made my decision for me.
