Fuck me. What a brutal start to the 2022 NHL betting season. After sweeping the early game last night, I end up losing both my 2 leg parlays by 1 shot each! So, instead of being up 3 units on the year we are now down 6. That’s just how betting goes sometimes. The main focus now is to keep staying consistent with my picks. Eventually, things will hit.

Bet #1 – Leafs, Canes, Avalanche Regulation Parlay (+255)

The Leafs against the Canadiens and the Avalanche against the Blackhawks are self explanatory. They are clear favorites and I don’t think either team will have a difficult time winning in regulation. As for the Hurricanes, they play the Blue Jackets. Although I believe the Blue Jackets will be sneaky good this year, they will be playing their 3rd string goalie tonight.

Korpisalo is currently on IR and Merzlikins is Day-to-Day with a sickness. The Hurricanes are a very good hockey team and I think even if one of those goaltenders was healthy, they would still win this game. Hopefully this parlay makes up for last nights brutal loss

Bet #2 – Matthews o4.5 & Svechnikov o2.5 shots (+233)

Auston Matthews is an absolute beast on opening night games. If you remember, in his first NHL game he tallied 4 goals. He loves to rip the puck. Matthews averaged 4.8 shots per game last season, hitting on o4.5 shots 47% of the time.

Andrei Svechnikov averaged 3.2 shots per game last season. He hit on o2.5 props 64% of the time. Whenever I see the hit rate over 60%, I feel quite comfortable taking that bet, even if it misses. Svechnikov also averaged 5 shot per game against the Blue Jackets last year.

Other Trends

  1. Patrik Laine hit on o2.5 shots 63% of the time last season
  2. Auston Matthews scored in 56% of his games and hit on o1.5 points 51% of the time last season
  3. Cale Makar hit on o2.5 shots 58% of the time last season
  4. Mikko Rantanen hit on o2.5 shots 68% of the time last season. Not sure why he isn’t o3.5 on DraftKings (kind of like how Kucherov was only o2.5 last night)

TLDR – Betting Summary

  1. Leafs, Canes, Avalanche Regulation Parlay (+255)
  2. Matthews o4.5 shots & Svechnikov o2.5 shots (+233)

Because of my slow start, I am holding on placing any additional bets on the later games until my #2 bet looks like it’s going to hit. When I do I will post it on my twitter page. I’ll tell you right now that Rantanen o2.5 shots will be included in that parlay.
