The Carolina Hurricanes are no longer a team that can be ignored. In recent years they have spent ample time and effort proving their critics wrong, and they have done so very convincingly.
From the addition of Rod Bring’Amour as head coach to talented young players like Sebastian Aho, Teuvo Teravainen, and Andrei Svechnikov on the top line, the Canes have set out to remind the Metro Division that they’re a force to be reckoned with.
A relatively young team in terms of players ages and length of time in the organization, the Carolina Hurricanes are a team to keep and eye on. The chemistry between their top lines is outstanding.
From no look spin passes between the Finns to the Lacrosse style goals #37 has been known to score; the Canes’ are an absolute force in the offensive zone. Their ability to score has proven to be the undoing of many opponents.
Anybody remember what this guy did to Tony DeAngelo in the Qualifiers?
The Carolina Hurricanes are no longer a team that can be ignored. In recent years they have spent ample time and effort proving their critics wrong, and they have done so very convincingly. From the addition of Rod Brind’Amour as head coach to talented young players like Sebastian Aho, Teuvo Teravinen, and Andrei Svechnikov on the top line, the Canes have set out to remind the Metro Division that they’re part of it too or at least will be again (lol).
If it’s not the scoring that worries you, their stacked defensive corpse should. Lead by Dougie Hamilton, Jacob Slavin, Brett Pesce and trade deadline acquisition Brady Skjei, the foundation is set for years to come.
Pesce is an unknown variable at the moment, coming off a long rehab for a shoulder injury that resulted in surgery, but that hardly means he isn’t a threat. He missed the 2020 postseason and will likely come back thirsty for another shot at the cup.
In all honesty the weakest link for the Canes’ and their potential undoing lies precisely where the Flyers and most other Metro teams are strongest, between the pipes. Mrazek and Reimer have both been solid, however, both goalies enjoy taking risks.
Mrazek’s desire to play the puck out of his crease resulted in perhaps the most talked about game all season. An emergency goalie was brought in to finish the Canes’ game in Toronto after both goalies suffered injuries. While Reimer’s injury was through no fault of his own, Mrazek could have avoided his.
The Canes’ struggles between the pipes should be expected. As said, both goalies have been stable and one would think both goalies have worked to improve during the long offseason. Does that mean Mrazek has completely changed his game? Unlikely.
All in all the Carolina Hurricanes are poised to make a run this year and without a doubt will provide exciting hockey for not just their fans, but fans across the NHL!
